The Brief
Aidan Halloran of ITN Architects who re-designed this entertainment and shopping complex, approached Textural Fink to source and specify material selection for the supply and installation of carpet & resilient flooring to the cinema foyers, stairwells, bathrooms, stores, Jazz club, bars, offices & eight screens in eight alternate monochrome colour themes.

The eight cinemas vary in size from small and intimate with seating for 58 people through to a blockbuster 220-seat space. Each of the cinemas is individually colour coded with carpet, walls, wall panels, ceiling and upholstery in one bold, primary block of colour.

THE BAKEHOUSE PROJECT
Bakehouse Studios is a Melbourne music landmark. Providing rehearsal studios and recording facilities, 'The Bakehouse' has long been a destination for local & international acts such as Ed Sheeran, Beck, Missy Higgins, Paul Kelly, Nick Cave, Elvis Costello, Vance Joy and The Smashing Pumpkins.
A group of well renowned local visual artists including Patricia Piccinini, Emily Floyd, Julia deVille and The Hotham Street Ladies were let loose in the grungy rehearsal rooms to create a new aesthetic for the hundreds of musicians that come through each week. The rooms were pulled apart and then recreated with the artwork and theme of the visual artists involved.
Textural Fink was engaged to source carpets for the renovated studios. Selections were based on each artist's different aesthetic and colour needs. With around 400 musicians and their equipment passing through 'The Bakehouse' each week, quality requirements such as durability and soil hiding characteristics was essential.
